Obituary

Claire LeMaire Fiedorowicz, 87, joined her recent-late husband, John, the morning of September 29, 2020.  Born in Ayer, MA, she had been a resident of Hampton, VA since 1966.

Married for 63 years, John and Claire met at Fort Devens in Massachusetts. After she eventually agreed to dance with him at a military ball, they were engaged and married six months later. They spent their lives dedicated to each other while raising four children, holding family—both nuclear and extended—at the top of their priorities.  Claire was a mother figure to many of the friends who were often fixtures within their home, always knowing the perfect way to prepare a grilled cheese.

Claire shared her husband's passion for sports and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan – watching all the games by his side all their lives. She was known best for talking about "those damn Yankees", and muttering whenever the Red Sox blew a lead to the Bronx Bombers.

Claire, better known lovingly as "Bopche", was preceded in death by her mother Agnes Dwyer, her father Norman LeMaire; her brother, Lionel and his wife Terry; her Uncle Joe, Uncle George & Uncle Vick as well as her beloved Auntie Claire and Uncle Dick. She is survived by her sons, Johnny and David (Janice); daughters, Lisa (Terence) and Julie (Mike); grandchildren, Ryan (Faith), Kris (Claire), Sean (Ashlyn) and Mary (Jensen); great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Hazel; nephew Gary (Karen); great-nephews, Matt (Andrea) and Greg; her great-great nephew Landon, along with her cousin Bret Talbert (Stephanie).

Claire will be laid to rest along with her husband in Arlington National Cemetery in October. The family wishes expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Disease by clicking here . In addition, the family wishes to offer our sincere gratitude to the caregivers for their compassion and commitment to our parents in the many years they provided in-home care. We are also very grateful for the excellent care and compassion provided by and shown by the staff at The Chesapeake.

Arrangements are by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in Hampton, 757-723-3191.
