IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Chris
Christopher
February 19, 1924 – December 1, 2019
Chris Christopher, 95, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at his home in Hampton, Virginia, surrounded by his family.
Chris was born on February 19, 1924, in the small village of Vasili, Cyprus. He married the love of his life, Anna Andonio on July 10, 1949, and within a few months moved to the United States for the new opportunities that life in America could offer. He became a proud American citizen – but he never let go of his Cypriot roots, instilling his Greek heritage in his children and sharing Greek traditions with family and friends.
Along with his brother-in-law, he owned and operated George's Music and Amusement Company in Phoebus, Virginia. He was a member of the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church and a member of the AHEPA, the Masons, and the Shriners. He was a health enthusiast. He loved the beach; he would swim and take long walks; he loved reading and doing crossword puzzles and enjoyed his scotch and poker buddies. But mostly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Anna Christopher, his parents Papayiannis (Yiasoumi) Hadji Papachristoforu, a Greek Orthodox priest, and Papathia (Evanthia), brothers Trifonas and Andreas and sister Helen. He leaves behind his son Chris Jr.; daughters Toni Carter, Evie Christopher, Angela Christopher (Wayne Crump), Joanne Garrett (Bob Hines); his grandchildren Zach Crump (Susan, great grandson Roman and great granddaughters Lilly and Avielle; Juliana Carter; Niki Caperton (Brian); Alexa Crump; Benjamin Ellis Garrett, III (Kayla, great granddaughter Quinn and great grandson Benjamin IV; and numerous nieces and nephews in Cyprus.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and aids for the care he received during his final days and a special thank you to Riverside Hospice and to Catholic Charities for all their assistance.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Friday, December 6, 2019 at St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm with Father George Chioros officiating. Burial will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association for research and the St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 60 Traverse Rd., Newport News, VA 23606. We are comforted in knowing that he is at peace.
