Charlotte Barbara Helms, 96, died Wednesday, August 17, 2022. Born in St. Louis, MO, Mrs. Helms was a Lutheran pastor's wife and they served in many places including Gainesville FL, Ft. Myers FL, New Britain, CT and finally in Gastonia NC, where they retired. In 1994 she moved to the Peninsula. She had served as church organist and choir director in many places. She worked in public and private schools as a teacher and volunteered at the Mariners Museum, Mary Immaculate Hospital and was a member of the CNU Lifelong Learning Society.

Mrs. Helms is survived by her children, David Helms (Carol), Ann Ezell (Tom) and Janet Maalouf (Walid), five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10 am, Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Resurrection Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends at the church, following the service. The interment will be held in Gastonia, NC on Friday at 11 am.

The family requests that memorials be sent to the Resurrection Lutheran Church School or Smile Train.
