Charlotte Mary Cockey, 75, transitioned to Glory on Friday, March 29, 2024. Born in Massachusetts to parents Earl C. and Elsie M. Painter, Sr. She was a lifelong resident of Hampton. Charlotte made a career of childcare and caregiving; was a longtime nanny for two families and especially loved caring for those with special needs. Charlotte enjoyed volunteering, from feeding the community to being very active in her church. She truly loved her family, friends, and church family and was "Nana" to everyone.
Preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Carol Smith; brothers, Joe Doyon, Patrick Painter, and Butch Painter; she leaves to cherish her sweet memory, daughters Melissa Parker (Kenny), and Tammy Major (Joe), son Ronnie Lawson, Jr. (Sonya); grandchildren, Ryan Lawson, Connor Lawson, Shelby Vicars, Gabriel Cruz, Sr. (Kelsey), Maya Cruz, Emily Major, and Maygan Major; great-grandchildren, Spencer Holifield, Ross Craven, Julian Schmidt, and Gabriel Cruz, Jr.; brothers, Earl Painter, Jr. and Ron Painter (Vickie); cousin, Roberta Perrone; and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, downtown Hampton. A Celebration of Life will be at 10 AM on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Victory Life Church, Hampton.
