Charles Lee Nolen, 77, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Born in Hampton to Alva and Gertrude Nolen, he remained a lifelong resident of the area. Charles devoted 45 years to Newport News Shipbuilding and retired as a general foreman. In his youth, some of his most cherished memories were of his volunteer service with Buckroe’s Fire Department. A true car enthusiast, he showed his love by caring for the cars of family and friends, often spending hours detailing them so they drove away looking better than ever.

Preceded in death by his parents, he leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 48 years, Ann R. Nolen; son C. L. Nolen II and his wife Stephanie; grandsons Charles L. “Chase” Nolen III and Arthur Nolen; sisters Trish Nolen and Kay Robinson; as well as many dear friends.

All services will be private.
