Obituary

Charles Herman (Chuck) Morgan, 88 of Smithfield, formerly of Hampton, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, entered his heavenly home on Saturday, September 24, surrounded by his family. He was born in Selma, North Carolina and his family moved to Hampton when he was a teenager.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Martha, his mother Annabelle Morgan and father George Herbert Morgan, and sister Lorry Phillips and son-in-law Bill Carwile. Left to cherish his memory are his loving daughters, Deborah Carwile, Toni Marshall, and her husband Dennis , and Tina Morgan; four grandchildren, Melanie Kennedy and her husband Chris, Lisa Bajus and her husband, Paul, Ryan Marshall, Chris Marshall and his wife, Samantha; five great-grandchildren, Morgan, Haley, Ellie, William, and Aliza; his loving sister Gaye Woolard and brother Harry Morgan and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

After serving in the Philippines in the Merchant Marines, he returned to the Peninsula and began his career in building. He started out laying hardwood floors and laid the floor in Hampton High School gym. Later he started his own company and built many, apartments, timeshares, and commercial buildings throughout the Peninsula.

He was a humble man with a generous heart. The work of his hands is displayed throughout Hampton Roads and his kind generous spirit left footprints on the hearts of many. His treasure was his family and he loved the times he shared with all of them and he will be greatly missed. He knew he was a blessed man and gave the glory for all he had been given.

He was a member of Pine Chapel Baptist Church where he served as deacon and taught Sunday School. His love of gardening was evident in his yard where he spent a lot of time growing beautiful flowers and roses.

The family wishes to thank the nurses at Fresenius Dialysis Center, Kathy, Jennifer, and Janie who showed him so much love and compassion.

The family will receive friends at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at 1PM followed by a funeral service at the funeral home at 2PM. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the building fund of Hope Presbyterian Church, 13490 Benn's Church Blvd., Smithfield, VA 23430.
