Charles Albert
Fromal, Sr.
September 5, 1939 – November 30, 2017
Charles Albert Fromal, 78, passed away at his longtime home in Wythe on November 30, 2017. Born in Hampton at the Old Dixie Hospital, he was the son of Albert and Mable Fromal. Charles was a member of the Hampton High School Class of 1958, and alumni of the College of William and Mary. Charles then met the love of his life, Patricia Fromal and they were married for 56 years. He went on to serve seven years in the Virginia Army National Guard while working as a senior designer with the Newport News Shipyard. In 1977 Charles went on to start his own business which he ran until returning to the shipyard in 1991 where he worked until retirement in 2010. Charles had a heart for giving, and served his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Wythe Fire Department for 16 years where he served as treasurer. He also served as a Cub Scout Leader and Webelo leader of Pack 10 for ten years. One of his great joys in life was camping with his sons.
He is survived by his wife Patricia; three sons, Charles Fromal Jr., Christopher Fromal and wife Jenna, and Patrick Fromal and wife Kimberley; grandchildren, Jacquelyn Gerlach, Charles Fromal III, Nina Fromal, Zachary Fromal, Shaun Fromal, Amy Fromal, Luke Fromal; great-granddaughter, Madeline Gerlach; two brothers, Donnie Fromal and wife Beth, and Ronnie Fromal and wife Barbara; his wife's extended family and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas, grandson, Christopher II and by his parents.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 am, Monday, December 4, 2017 at Wythe Presbyterian Church by Rev. T. Clint Mitchell with a private interment to be held later in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6-8 pm at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton.
