IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles Clifton
Fields
March 10, 1934 – August 11, 2022
Charles Clifton (Chuck) Fields, 88, of Hampton, VA, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his beloved family on August 11, 2022.
Charles was born to Ezra and Rosalie (Hayslett) Fields on March 10, 1934, in Phoebus, VA. Ezra Fields was in the Army, so Chuck's childhood was spent all over the United States, calling "home" wherever the military sent them.
Chuck joined the United States Air Force in 1951 and honorably served in the Korean War. After retiring from active duty, he returned to Phoebus and continued to serve in the Army Reserves. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Dixie Blanche (Myers). After a fairytale courtship, they were wed on May 4, 1957. Chuck and Dixie decided to "put down roots" there in Phoebus and were blessed with four daughters to raise and love - Cheryl, Gloria, Regina, and Natalie.
His love of country and community then led him to the Hampton Police Department as a Patrol Officer, and he eventually retired as a Communications Specialist for Fort Monroe after over 30 years of combined military and civil service.
The retirement years were good to Chuck, as he spent his time volunteering with the Citizens Police Academy of Hampton, traveling throughout the east coast with his family, and never missing an opportunity to stop at a roadside fruit stand or celebrate a special occasion.
"Pops", as he was affectionately named by his grandchildren, was "one of the good ones". He took pride in providing for his family and serving his community. He was a loyal friend, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his coin collections, taking his family to the "most magical place on Earth", and most of all, going on adventures and making memories with his beautiful wife.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Ezra and Rosalie (Hayslett) Fields. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dixie Blanche; his daughters, Cheryl Fox (Mark), Gloria Hopkins, Regina Blankenship (Dale), and Natalie Clark (John); grandchildren, Danny Clark (Katie), Jeremy Fox (Emma), Sherry Carducci (Nathan), James Eric Duncan II, Stacy Fox (Jimmie), Tyler Blankenship (Taylor), Ally Hicks (Ben), Christy Blankenship (Cameron), Evyn Hopkins, and Cierra Clark; great-grandchildren, Reagan, Eli, Rosalie, Benjamin, Greyson, Blake, Khaleesi, Brady, Trista, Olivia, and Cayson; and many other family and friends who loved him.
The family will receive friends on August 16, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. A memorial service will also be held at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home on August 17 at 10:00 am, with a graveside service immediately following at Parklawn Memorial.
