Catherine Wilkins Saunders, 100 years old, went to be with her Heavenly Father December 14, 2014 while in her own home. Born and raised in Gloucester Co., she married & moved to Hampton in 1936. Catherine was a professional homemaker & master seamstress, tailoring clothes for many individuals and in early years providing alterations for Mugler's Clothing Store. Preceded in death by husband William S Saunders in 1984, Catherine's survivors include her daughters Mary Ann Vanasse (Alan) & Connie McCartney (Jerry), grandchildren Denise Siegfeldt, Michelle Sealey, Teresa Schmidt, Mark Johnson, Dennis Johnson, Jr (DJ), 12 great & 6 great great grandchildren. Catherine was tenderly cared for by her children and wonderful caregivers Carolyn, Denise, Eriko and Sentara Hospice. Visitation will be from 5:30-7:30 Wednesday, December 17 at R Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S Armistead Ave. Graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 AM Thursday by Rev. Bob Rough at Hampton Memorial Gardens, Butler Farm Rd. Reception will follow at Phoebus United Methodist Church.
