Carol Ann Sumner, 59, of Hampton, Virginia, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 4th, 2016, at Portsmouth Naval Hospital with her family by her side.
Born September 25, 1957, in Alexandria, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Viola Cunningham.
Carol was a loving wife and dedicated mother to all who knew her. She cherished her family and wanted to be surrounded by them all the time. She was hard working and loved working as a server at Red Lobster. She loved to spend time walking the beach with the love of her life and spending time with her kids, grandkids, and great grandbaby.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, Edward C. Sumner; 4 children, Melody Sumner & Jason of Newport News, VA, Jennifer Prebish & Matt of Hampton, VA, Steven Sumner & Stephanie of Newport News, VA, and Stephanie Sumner & Jenn of Culpeper, VA; her 10 grandchildren Jacqueline Gail &Trevor, Tassandra Lynn, James Edward, Malachi Jamel, Christian Mark, Nautica Ann Marie, Nevaeh Angel, Jason Larry, Mason Ray, and Ethan Edward; 1 great grandchild Kahlana Lenay; 2 adopted children Crystal West of Hampton, VA, and Gail Robinson of Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by her brother Allen, sisters Robin and Linda, and lots of nieces and nephews. Last but not least, Carol's cat Jada. She was preceded in death by her brother Edward "Danny Boy" Cunningham, her sister Mary Frye and her grandson Elijah Farrior.
Celebration of Life services will be conducted at 3:00pm Saturday, October 15, 2016, at Bible Way Baptist located at 216 Webster Street in Hampton, VA. Flowers and donations can be sent directly to Bible Way Baptist.
