Carl Edward Swift, 72, passed over on Friday, September 10 th at home with his children by his side. He was born on October 10, 1948 to Edward Swift and Bertha Perry Swift-Chaplin. He grew up alongside his 6 brothers and 3 sisters in Mount Morris, New York; Gary Swift, Lyle Swift (dec), Keith Swift, Roger Swift, Edward Swift, Robert Swift (dec). Barb Sica (dec) Linda Peri, and Cindy Wedekind. Carl had been a resident of Hampton, VA since 1968 when serving in the Air Force from 1968-1975, where he proudly served in Thailand during the Vietnam war and again later in the Army from 1980-1982. Thereafter, he worked civil service on jet engines and cross country truck driving until retirement.
Carl loved his wife and family beyond measure, his loyal k-9's, and football. He always left an impression with those along his path, a laugh and smile with his unique sense of humor. He was a warrior, generous giver to those in need, true to his journey, and a selfless spirit. There are no words to describe how his presence will be missed, but there is strength and comfort in honoring him - knowing his peace.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife Cheryl Tringle – Swift, his son Timothy Michael Swift, two grandsons, Timothy (Drew) and Austin Swift, and daughter in-law Cindy Swift. He is survived by his daughter; Trina Swift-Bryant and her husband Robert L Bryant, grandsons, Robert (Allen) Bryant (Megan), Jesse Bryant, Steven Bryant (Emily), and son David (Tony) Swift; wife Tamara and grandson, Matthew Swift and many loved relatives, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home on Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 1-2PM. A funeral service will follow at 2PM with interment after in Hampton Memorial Gardens with military honors. A reception will follow and the interment and be announced at the service.
The family requests flowers or donations to the Animal Aid Society, Hampton or the American Cancer Society.
