Bruce Allen Moody, 79, passed away Friday, July 23, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Waynesville, North Carolina to parents Charles and Ruth Allen Moody; he left his mountain home at the age of 18 to attend the Apprenticeship School at Newport News Shipbuilding, in Newport News. Before he completed classes, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he served for two years. Bruce returned to the area after the Army and worked as an electrician for many years, retiring in 2020.
An avid reader, Bruce enjoyed works by James Patterson, and legal thrillers by John Grisham; he enjoyed playing golf but was most happy spending time with his family.
Preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Ray and Luke Moody, and his sister, Jane Moody Lyman; he is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carol Griffith Moody; daughter Tricia Moody; his grandson, Joshua Rice; brother, James Moody; many nieces and nephews; and his great-nieces, Lucy and Willow Custis that he considered his granddaughters.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, July 26, 2021, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2 – 3:00 PM at the funeral home. The service will be lived streamed on the funeral home Facebook page or CLICK HERE AT 2:57 PM .
