Obituary

Bruce Joseph "Bunky" "BJ" Capps, 83, died Thursday, January 28, 2016. Born at Fort Monroe, he was a lifetime Peninsula resident where he retired from the Newport News Shipyard Quality Assurance Department after 41 years.

After he played football at Hampton High school and then William and Mary, Bruce enlisted in and served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War before starting his career at the shipyard. Mr. Capps was a past president of the Lafayette Gun Club where he loved target shooting. He was active in Contact Peninsula and also enjoyed photography. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Molly Lord Capps; two sons and their wives, Butch and Pam Capps and Chris and Tamie Capps; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Christina, Michelle, Nicole, Lindsay, Sidney and Ian and six great-grandchildren. After receiving friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm Tuesday in Denbigh Presbyterian Church, 302 Denbigh Boulevard, a funeral service will be conducted with Pastor Deborah Dail officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Memorials may be in the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
