Bruce A. Baber passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at the Chesapeake Retirement Home. He was born on February 1, 1931 in Bessamer, AL.

He graduated from the University of Tennessee and the Medical College of Virginia. After graduation, he served two years in the US Army Medical Corps; after the army, he was in family practice in Hopewell, VA from 1962-1970.
He then went on to further his medical career, completing a residency in anesthesiology at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. He was in private practice in Hampton, VA for 20 years. After retiring, he taught anesthesiology to students in Tanzania for 2 years.

He was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Hampton, where he served on the vestry and participated in mission work in New Orleans, Belize, and West Virginia.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Peake Baber; son, Bruce A. Baber, Jr (Lupita); daughter, Sydney Baber Kelly (David); brother, Paul Bennett Hoke; and grandchildren, Sofia, Jordan, and Bryce.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 179 E. Mercury Blvd, Hampton, VA 23669.
