Bridget White Owens of Hampton, died November 5th, surrounded by those she loved. She was born in London, England in 1936, the daughter of the late William and Margaret White. After being swept off her feet by a dashing US airman, she came to the United States as his young bride in 1956. As an Air Force couple, they travelled all over the United States before their final assignment here in Hampton. Even though the US became her adopted home, a part of her always longed for the UK. As a 40 year member of the Transatlantic Brides and Parents Association, Bridget developed a life long group of friends who knew "the proper way" to make a cup of tea while they shared stories of "Home". A special thank you to Cheryl; your visits helped bridge the gap as our mother's memories of the past overtook the reality of the present. Bridget was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Albert Owens; her brothers Dennis and Liam White, and her grandson Christopher Savard. She is survived by her children Margaret Savard, Cathy (Paul) Bartz, JoAnn Owens, Paul Anthony (Lisa) and Mary Elizabeth Owens. Of all the roles she played in life, Grandmother was her most cherished. She is survived by her grandchildren Kathleen Bartz, Colby Owens, Sarah Bartz, Kelsey Owens, Ronnie Savard, and Joshua Owens. She also leaves behind her sister and best friend, Margaret Hobler (John); nephew Stephen, nieces Karen and Shelby, and extended family and friends here and abroad. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 PM at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am, Thursday, November 12, 2015 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where Bridget was a member for over 48 years. Interment will be private.
