Obituary

Memorial Service will proceed as scheduled today.  NO changes due to weather.

Brenda K. Jarrell, 64, died Friday, January 21, 2022. Born in Newport News, she was a lifelong Hampton resident. She had worked as the manager of LensCrafters, Pearl Vision Center, and the Hampton Walmart Vision Center before going to work at Cullom Eyecare where she worked until 2016 when she suffered a stroke which made it impossible for her to continue working.

A headstrong woman, Brenda was rough around the edges, but once you got to know her, you found out what a beautiful woman she was. She had no filter so if you asked her what she thought, you needed to be prepared to hear the truth. A very caring, giving person, she had traveled to Bolivia with the Lions' Club SightFirst Program. She was also known to visit nursing homes to fix eyeglasses for the residents.

Brenda was preceded in death by her father, James E. Rowe, her brothers-in-law, Claude James "Buster" Jarrell and David Carroll Jarrell, and a nephew, Brent Rowe. Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Claude "Bo" Jarrell; her daughters, Brandy Kelley (Steven) and Carol Elaine; her sons, Randy R. Jarrell (Melinda Sturgeon) and Shawn M. Jarrell; her mother, Jean Rowe; her sisters, Susy Wambach (Matthew) and Debra "Necie" Murphy; and her brother, Billy Rowe (Mitzie); her grandchildren, Brandon, Tyler, Kyle and Adam Kelley; her brother-in-law, Amos Wesley Jarrell; her sisters-in-law, Sally Jarrell, Frances Freret (Robert), and Mary Faye; her nieces and nephews, Jason Murphy. Michael, Andrew, and Zachary Wambach, Brandon, Rowe, Amos Jarrell, Robin Dedeaux, Robert Freret (Chloe), James Jarrell, Kimberly Freret Schmotzer; Brandi Gonyea, and Tami Jarrell Bruce Hover; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She will also be missed by her beloved dog, Dodger who was always by her side.
