IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Beverly Gadberry
Hanna
August 29, 2019
To know Beverly was to love Beverly. A woman of many – many tastes, experiences, interests, talents, friends, joys and loves. She passed away on August 29, 2019.
Beverly was native to the great state of Texas where she was born, raised and educated. Earning a degree in Fashion Design, Beverly started her career designing children's clothes and went on to found and operate a business designing and manufacturing square dance dresses. Her unique fashion sense was hers and hers alone. Influenced by her western upbringing, Beverly was color, bling, flair and panache all rolled up in one.
She enjoyed a good bargain and haunted thrift stores to find just the right one of a kind object to make over to her needs. She liked nothing better than to attend the formal evenings on a cruise ship wearing a smashing outfit that cost her $15.00 and put her creativity to work.
Her artistic talents turned to painting and creating other works of art using found objects such as shells and rocks. Studying under Barclay Sheaks, Beverly painted many water and beach scenes, western landscapes, and still life paintings.
Bev absolutely loved music. She could carry on a conversation about any genre of music, from opera to hard rock to country and western. She and her brother traveled far and wide to attend concerts especially with Willie Nelson, Ray Price and others country legends. Express an interest in almost any artist and Beverly would share her extensive music collection with you.
She had a knack for making friends everywhere she went and was comfortable with people of all ages and types. Beverly treasured her friends and worked hard at maintaining those friendships.
She had a keen interest in many subjects, as an avid reader kept a notebook to log the books she read so as to be able to identify the few unread on the shelves at the Newport News Library.
Beverly was a true example of what so many women aspire to be. Her own woman, defining her place in the world on her own terms. So very traditional in many ways, while at the same time being so cutting edge and liberated.
Beverly had a deep and wonderful relationship with her brother John Gadberry who survives her. Her husband Richard, with whom she traveled the world and lived life to the fullest for over 50 years, and her parents Hubert and Dorothy Gadberry, passed earlier in her life.
