Obituary

It is with much sadness and joy that we announce the passing of our precious mother, Bette Jane Rhodes (Darr). She is now in the loving embrace of her Lord and Savior. Bette was born in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley to the late H.K. & Sue Darr. She was preceded in death by "her guy" John, her loving husband of 67 years.

Bette is survived and greatly missed by her children Deborah (Steve), Tammy (Mark), Karen (Stephen), Chrissy (Mark), David (Alison), and Willie (Lynn); 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her younger brother, Don (Jan).

Bette always wanted a big family, and God blessed her with 6 children. She was a devoted homemaker, always putting her family's needs above her own. She never complained, even when she was diagnosed with MS in her early fifties. She always said God had a plan for her life and she was an obedient servant.

Bette was a wonderful cook and baker. She taught her grandchildren how to bake. She loved playing games with her children and grandchildren, especially card games and Chinese checkers. She liked to win and would say to the kids, "we're not friends when we play games". She had a contagious smile that would draw you in; and you just wanted to know what made her smile so much….it was her love for Lord. She wanted everyone to know Jesus.

Bette loved the Lord! She loved to read her bible and share the word of God. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was kind, generous and compassionate. She was a role model for both women and men, demonstrating how to live a fulfilling and meaningful life. Bette was a reminder that true beauty and worth come not from charm or outward appearance, but from a life lived in faith and service to others. She lived her life as a Proverbs 31 woman.

She was a longtime member of Calvary Assembly of God in Hampton.

After a private graveside ceremony, a memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Calvary Assembly of God Church, Hampton, Va.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Calvary Assembly of God, Hampton VA or to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, (MSAA).

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7
