Bette Holman died peacefully on April 14, 2018 two weeks short of her 99th birthday. Born April 29, 1919 in Bronxville, New York, she was the fourth child of five children born to Dr. Maximin DeMouy Touart and Claire Baker Touart. Bette was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Col. Harlen Keith Holman, USA (ret.), a West Point Graduate, class of 1938. She is survived by two sons Keith Touart Holman (Jackie) and Peter Lindsey Holman (LaWanna), one granddaughter, four grandsons, five great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Bette enjoyed collecting antiques, needlepoint, and gardening. She had many friends and enjoyed socializing and was active in her earlier years with various garden clubs, sewing class, and the Hampton Yacht Club. During her long life Bette lived through many historic events including the Great Depression and World War II. Being the wife of an Army Artillery officer she moved more than 32 times. She spent two years in Darmstadt, Germany and two years in Verdun, France. Bette was very intelligent and often outspoken as an Army officers' wife but she was always kind, sophisticated, and had a generous heart. Bette typified the World War II generation. She will be greatly missed by all.
There will be a graveside service at the St. John's Episcopal Church Cemetery in Hampton, Va., on April 19, 2018 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers a donation to your favorite charity in Bette's name would be appreciated.
