Bernice Blackwell Anderson, the daughter of McKinley and Daisy Brown was born on November 25, 1930 in Reidsville, North Carolina. She departed this life on October 17, 2016 at Sentara Careplex in Hampton, Virginia.
At an early age, Bernice confessed her belief in the Lord Jesus Christ and joined Camp Spring Methodist Church in Reidsville. After moving to Hampton, Virginia, she continued her religious journey at Saint Paul AME Church in Newport News, Virginia.
"Bunny," as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, was a meticulous homemaker for many years. Her time was devoted to taking care of her home and family. When her boys grew up, she began working at Whittaker Memorial Hospital. Bunny retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation in 1995. In her retirement years, she spent most of her leisure time sewing and crafting. She especially enjoyed gardening and testing newfound recipes to add to her ever-growing recipe collection. She also loved shopping for beautiful clothes. Bunny was a very fashionable/stylish dresser.
In addition to her parents, Bunny is predeceased by her son, Aaron C. Blackwell; husbands, Sterling Blackwell and Frank Anderson, Sr.; and sister, Estella B. Haskins.
Bunny is survived by her sons, Gaither L. Blackwell (Barbara) of Newport News, Virginia, Sterling W. Blackwell of Dayton, Ohio, and Frank Anderson, Jr. (Roslyn) of Hampton, Virginia; granddaughters, Yolanda B. Robinson (Ralph) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Kimberly N. Blackwell of Hampton, Virginia, Kamara Blackwell of Washington State, and Ava Blackwell of Baltimore, Maryland; a grandson, Terry Barnes (Lackey) of Durham, North Carolina; sisters, Lucille Graves of Reidsville, North Carolina, Fannie Blackwell of Hampton, Virginia; brothers, James Brown (Sandra) of Newport News, Virginia, and Elmer Brown of Greensboro, North Carolina; 4 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends who will dearly miss her.
