Obituary

Benjamin Franklin Perry, Jr. 74, transitioned to Heaven on April 7, 2026, surrounded by his Family. Born in Powellsville, North Carolina to parents Benjamin and Mary Winborne Perry, lovingly known as “Big Boy”. He retired as a Salesperson from Hampton Chevrolet with 35 years of service.

Ben was a dedicated family man, who loved being a brother, husband, father and grandfather. At heart he enjoyed spending time outdoors at the Beach riding bikes, swimming, camping and playing basketball. He spent countless hours teaching his children the “Art of Fishing. Bowling, music and dancing were also favorite pastimes, often known to Get the Party Started. An avid music lover, he was a fan of R&B, Jazz and Frankie Beverly.

Preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Geraldine Simmons; Ben leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 48 years, Julia H. Perry: daughters Erica M.Perry and Lauren J. Perry: son Michael A. Vaughan (Shalecca); grandchildren, Corrine E. Perry, Alloysia Vaughan Hunter, Makiya Vaughan-Correa, and Tierra Vaughan; great-grandchildren, Karsen Hunter, Lailan Hunter, Lolani Hunter, Kendall Hunter, Meilani Vaughan-Correa, Torrie Holley and Dontrell Rawls Jr.; sisters, Frances Leary (William), Christine P. Winston (Roger), Mary Perry and Joaney Perry; nieces and nephews, Maurice Leary, Rodney Winston, Roger Winston, Jr., LaTasha Ashford, Max Mitchell, Tonya Peele, William Sherer, Meka Peele, Sayelcia Sherer, Timothy Cherry and favorite cousin, Bud Hall; college friend who was like a brother, Ray Brothers (Diane) college friend who was like a sister, Dalphine Hayes (Samuel); and a large extended family of cousins, great nieces and great nephews. Bonus Daughters to include Suzanne Minthorn, Keneshia Bacon and Roni Cutchin.

Ben was a humorous, kind, energetic man with a huge heart. He found joy in giving wisdom and advice to anyone who needed it. Big Boy was the fun uncle that kept the laughs going. God was the center of his life, having a strong faith and relationship with the Lord.

Ten years ago, we almost lost him. But by God’s Grace he was given a second chance, more time for us to Cherish him. A Miracle that reminded us all of God’s Power and Mercy. Special thanks to daughter, Lauren who provided his full time care.

He will be sorely missed by all that knew him. The family is comforted knowing he transitioned peacefully to be with his Lord. GONE BUT FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE GATHERING will be held SATURDAY, April 18, 2026 at  2:00 PM at the FENWICK RD. FORT MONROE (PAVILLION 5) on the right on the beach side.  Please look for the CELEBRATION DECORATIONS.
