Obituary

Beatrice C. Fequiere passed away on Tuesday February 24, 2015 at the age of 85. She was born on August 24, 1929 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti to Marcel Content and Locianie Frederique Choute. Beatrice leaves behind four children: Danielle-Beatrice DeBonis (Richard), Dominique Valentin, Pierre-Marie Glatt, and Paul-Henry Fequiere. Her loving granddaughters Natalie Blackmon and Adele Fequiere will miss her kind, gentle spirit. She also leaves behind three brothers: Emanuel Content of Manchester, New Hampshire; Jacques Choute (Paulette) of Kingwood, Texas: and Pierre Choute of Brooklyn, NY. Beatrice also will be missed by many cousins, nieces and nephews throughout United States and Canada. Beatrice was educated in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and received her registered nursing degree in 1951. She worked for many years before answering the call to serve God and joined the convent in 1952. Beatrice left the convent in 1957 and on December 19, 1958 married Calisthene Fequiere a local attorney/educator. Beatrice was a dutiful wife, mother, nurse, and friend. In 1965, the family had the opportunity to work for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). They were assigned to work in Kinshasa, Zaire now known as The Democratic Republic of the Congo. In 1968, the family immigrated to Canada, eventually moving to Manchester New Hampshire. Beatrice found work as a certified nursing assistant to support her family with her husband. Her goal was to practice the nursing profession that she loved. Her first language was French. Beatrice took language classes to learn English and found a program in Syracuse New York that would assist her in getting her nursing license to practice in the United States. The family moved to Syracuse, New York in 1972 and Beatrice received her nursing license in 1973. In 1975, the family became proud Americans when they became United States citizens. In 1977, Beatrice and her husband divorced and the family moved to Hampton, Virginia. She worked as a registered nurse at Whitaker Hospital, Newport News General Hospital, the Hampton Veterans Hospital and finally retiring from Eastern State in 1996. Beatrice was a long time member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Hampton, Virginia until her health started declining. Beatrice was diagnosed with Alzheimer's/Dementia and this illness took its toll on her sweet spirit. The family will receive visitors at Berceuse Funeral Traditions on Thursday March 5, 2015 from 4pm to 6pm and on Friday March 6, 2015 prior to the funeral mass. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 AM Friday, March 6, 2015 at 10:00 am. The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church 512 Buckroe Ave, Hampton, VA 23664.
