Barbara Ellen Nelson, 72, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014. Born in Martinsville, VA, to Gladys and Tyree Stanley, she has been a resident of Hampton since 1955 where she worked as a service manager for Farm Fresh in Phoebus. She retired in 1997 after 32 years. She was also very involved in the Tyler Athletic Association in Phoebus, where she spent many hours raising money so that each player would have a team uniform. Barbara is survived by her husband Robert Nelson; daughters, Angela Hunt and fiancé Lester Stiller of Smithfield and Stephanie Gauvin and husband Joseph of Windsor; son, Tony Nelson and Michelle Reagan of Hampton; brothers, Earl and Frank Stanley; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Barbara's life will be remembered and celebrated 3:00 PM Saturday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in downtown Hampton.
