IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara "Bobbie"
M. Flowers
June 6, 1940 – April 21, 2023
Barbara M. Flowers, 82, died April 21, 2023. She was born in the Buckroe Beach area of Hampton and grew up in Phoebus. Barbara attended St. Mary's Star of the Sea School for primary school and then went to Hampton High School where she was a member of the class of 59'. High school friends referred to her as Barbara-Jean, and later in life, friends knew her as Bobbie, but to family, she was simply Meme.
After high school Bobbie worked as a flight stewardess and later at Virginia National Bank. She later became a teacher's aide for Hampton Public Schools before spending the remainder of her career at Gloria Dei Lutheran School where she retired in '22 after 15 years with the school. Bobbie enjoyed her 5 AM morning walks with dear friends that she referred to as the "Walkers." She was a member of the Woman's Club of Hampton where she enjoyed the festive activities and fellowship with friends. She was an active member of Hampton Baptist Church, often volunteering, attending Sunday School, or participating in Circle Group. Bobbie was a talented pianist and loved her VW Bug and ice cream. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and Meme. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Mattie Mittelmaier and her dear husband of over 40 years, Charles Ray Flowers. Survivors include her children, Missy Busch (Jay), Jeff Flowers (Linda), and Todd Flowers; grandchildren, Chris Flowers, Scottie Flowers, and Katie Wright; sisters, Sally Dail (Charles) and Eva Mack (Joe); and her brother, Al Mittelmaier (Bonnie).
A Celebration of Life will be held at Hampton Baptist Church on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 2 PM. Interment with her husband in Clark Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in Bobbie's memory be made to the Hampton Baptist Church General Fund or the Hospice House of Williamsburg.
