IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara Jean
Liakos Langley
December 23, 1947 – February 8, 2023
Barbara Jean Liakos Langley passed away on February 8, 2023, at her home in Smithfield, VA, after a lengthy illness. Barbara Jean was born December 23, 1947, in Newport News, Virginia, and she graduated from Newport News High School. She worked 35 years and retired as a supervisor from the Virginia Employment Commission. She was a resident of Smithfield for over 50 years; she could be seen working in her yard almost daily and being sure she had the best fed hummingbirds in the neighborhood.
She was predeceased by her husband, Larry W. Langley; her parents, George and Agnes Liakos; her sister, Patricia L. Amburgey; two brothers-in-law and a great nephew. Barbara Jean is survived by her devoted son Alton F. Langley and his wife Tracey. She will always be a beloved sister to her surviving siblings: George Liakos (Gayle), Mary Joyner (Tom), Kathleen Ames (Bill), Janet Dudley (David), Susie Ellis, Tommy Liakos (Roxanne), Margie Manus (TG), Louis Liakos (Michele), Aggie Criner (Robert), Virginia Staley (David), Chris Liakos and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara Jean fought a courageous four-year battle with cancer – this did not slow her down until the last few months. She wanted to acknowledge her health care provider/oncologist Dr. Stacey Rogers and staff for their diligent care. Also, the family wishes to thank Tradition Health (Hospice Care) for their guidance, support, and compassion.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. A funeral mass will immediately follow at the church beginning at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church - Back Door Ministry Fund (230 33rd St., Newport News, VA 23607) or a favorite charity.
From all of us. . . 'Bob' it will be hard to live a day without you.
