Obituary

Aulene Horton Clark of Hampton, Virginia passed into the arms of her Savior, July 2, 2013.

She was born on November 21, 1923 in Amherst County (Elon), Virginia to the late James Madison Horton, Sr. and Ruth Knight Horton. She is preceded in death by six brothers, James Madison, Jr., Henry, Winfred, Frank, Harry and Billy Horton, and four sisters, Margaret Brown, Florence Foster, Madeline Kessler, and Catheline Womack.

Aulene graduated from Madison Heights High School and attended Phillips Secretarial School of Lynchburg. She moved to Richmond, Virginia and worked for the US Patent Office during World War II. She married Edward Todd Clark and worked for the War Assets Administration while he finished his last two years of dental school at the Medical College of Virginia. She helped her husband set up his dentistry practice in Hampton after his tour of duty in the navy. In her later years she was owner of the Todd Professional Center and Vice President of Aberdeen Company, the builders of the Todd Center.

When their children were born she became a homemaker spending lots of time sewing, cooking, canning and freezing since her husband always had a big garden. Caring for the two girls she loved and all their needs became a top priority.

She was a member of Central United Methodist Church on Chapel Street in Hampton for 64 years. She was a member and past president of the Progressive Class and her church's society of the United Methodist Women. She also served as the treasurer of Circle #8 for many years. Later she became a member of the Fern Stewart and Lois Lane Circles.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 67 years, Dr. E. Todd Clark, her daughters, Deborah Ann Roseman and her husband Darwin, and Mary Todd Glisson, her granddaughter Crystal Sweet and her husband Tully, and grandsons, Chris Roseman and wife Nicole, and Jeff Roseman. She is survived by 3 great-grandchildren, Devyn and Megan Roseman and Greyson Sweet and a sister-in-law, Marion Horton.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10 AM, Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Central United Methodist Church Hampton with interment to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 4-6 PM at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kessler and his staff for their care and concern over the last few years.
