Obituary

Augustine Minnie Strother Baptiste was born on August 3, 1920 in Culpeper County, Virginia, the 7th child of the late Samuel B. Strother and Minnie Gaines of Culpeper County. From this union came 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Augustine's early years were spent in Culpeper where she attended public school. In 1942, at the age 21, she went to live in Washington, DC where she was employed. In 1947, she met Lonnie Baptiste, her husband of 22 years. She then became employed with the Washington DC Terminal for 19 years, now known as AMTRACK. Augustine also owned and operated a DC city cab for 37 years. Augustine was a member of the Mt Olive Baptist Church in Culpeper, and later joined Vermont Avenue Baptist Church in Washington DC. Augustine had many friends throughout the years and loved her family. She lived life to the fullest. In 2013, she moved to Hampton, VA to be near her daughter. Augustine leaves to cherish her memories her devoted daughter, Betty Moore; son-in-law Joseph Moore; sister, Ella Louise Hackley; sister-in-law, Rose Strother; grandson, Joseph Moore Jr.; granddaughter, Shannon Moore; great-grandson, Loki Moore; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
