Obituary

Arnold "A.T." Duncan, 79, was unexpectedly called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 20, 2014. Born in Sylacauga, Alabama, he has been a resident of Hampton since 1974.

A.T. served our country, 3 years in the U. S. Marines and 23 years in the U. S. Air Force, retiring in 1977. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He then worked 20 years as a postal carrier retiring in 1998. He was a member of Northside Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother. Surviving are his beloved wife and best friend, Betty "Janey" Duncan; daughters, Katherine "Cathi" Martini of Alexandria, VA and Terri L. McDonald and her husband Thomas of Havelock, NC; grandchildren, Colt, Scarlett, Lexi and Valerie; and great-grandchildren, Cameron Shay and Austin Shane; brother, Larry Conville and his wife Susan of Birmingham, AL; loving family members, Jay and Sandi Rutherford and Art and Linda Bennett; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many special friends..

The family will receive friends from 2-4:00 PM Sunday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in downtown Hampton. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday in the funeral home chapel by Pastor Larry Jones. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.

The family wishes expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to Northside Christian Church, Student Ministry Building Fund, 1300 George Washington Memorial Highway, Yorktown, VA 23693 or the American Cancer Society.
