IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Armonda Carlton
Viars
October 28, 1950 – November 14, 2025
Armonda Carlton "Carl" Viars, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, at the age of 75. Carl was born on October 28, 1950, at the U.S. Army Hospital in Fort Eustis, Virginia — a fitting beginning for a man who would later serve his country with honor and distinction.
Carl graduated from Hampton High School in 1968 and went on to earn his degree in Business Administration from Christopher Newport College in 1984. He was drafted into the United States Army and bravely served his country in The Vietnam War, where he was awarded a Bronze Star for his courage and dedication.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Edgar Viars; his mother, Angelina Carbone Viars; his sister, Rosemarie McDowell; his mother-in-law, Freddie Dougherty; and his father-in-law, Ernest Hale.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Terrie Hale Viars; his cherished son, Armonda Carson Viars; and his treasured granddaughters, Lilliana and Madison Viars. He is also survived by his brothers, Jimmy Viars (Juli) and John Viars (Brenda); his sister, Jeanne Baaklini; his sisters-in-law, Pamela Hale Johnson and Amber Hale Betts; his brother-in-law, Timothy Hale; and numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember his kindness, humor, and guidance.
Carl's legacy is one of love, loyalty, and service. Whether sharing stories, lending a helping hand, or offering a warm smile, he had a way of making every moment meaningful. He was our protector, our storyteller, our steady place in a complicated world. We will honor him in the way we live, the way we love, and the way we remember. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he leaves behind will continue to inspire and comfort all who loved him.
A celebration of Carl's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor a man who meant so much to so many.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Carl's honor to the Wounded Warrior Project by clicking HERE .
May he rest in eternal peace.
