Annie K. Starnes, 95, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026.  She was born  in Salisbury, N.C., was married to Lloyd Starnes after graduating from Rowan High School, and then spent the remainder of her adult life raising four children in Hampton, Virginia:  Martha S. Bauer, David R. Starnes, Nancy S. Reed (husband, Wayne) and Thomas L. Starnes (wife, Marylee). Her children then proceeded to give her 8 grandchildren: Eric Bauer (deceased), Laura Martin (husband Keith), Justin Atkins (wife Karla), Charles Atkins and Ashley Atkins (deceased), Jason Aukland (fiancé Angel), Lee Starnes and Erin Beason (husband David). Six great-grandchildren then follow:  Trenton Shaffer, Mason Bauer, Mary Atkins, Virginia Beason, Henry Beason, and Daniel Beason.

Annie loved to cook for her large family.   She learned these skills cooking for her siblings.  All three pre-deceased her, but are in our hearts. Sherrill "Buddy" Kearns, Nancy K. Starnes, and Billy T. Kearns. Annie also loved walking on the beach and fishing, then cleaning and cooking the fish.  Check out the pictures in the narthex.

A memorial service will be conducted by Pastor Dave Fox at 11am Saturday, March 21, 2026 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 807 West Mercury Blvd., Hampton, VA 23666. Please join us afterward as well for visitation and a reception in the fellowship hall.  Annie and Lloyd have been active members since 1955.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to St. Paul's Memorial Fund at the above address. Arrangements are by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home including a private interment for the family.
