Annie Gertrude Burks departed this life on 01/02/2018 at the age of 95. She was a native of Wicomico Virginia and then moved to the peninsula and has lived here since. She was a graduate of Newport News High School in 1942, a member of Ivy Memorial Baptist Church for 60 plus years where she was a member of the Loyalty Sunday School class and the Hunt & Hancock Circle. She worked at Sturgess Newport printing company for 30 years and then moved to Braceland Brothers in Williamsburg for an additional 10 years as a master printer.

Gertrude is proceeded in death by her husband Carlton Burks, her son Bill Burks, her mother Salome Ambrose Beyer, her father John William Hall and granddaughter Shauna Burks.

Her survivors are her daughter, Carolyn Powell and her husband Wayne, her surviving grandchildren are, Jeremy Powell, Teresa Powell, Nia Burks as well as one great grandson Derrick Powell and her special cousins, Amalita Thomas, Joyce Hogge and Faye LaBelle.

Memorial Service will be held at Ivy Memorial Baptist Church on 01/13/2018 @ 11:00 am. Visitation will be at the church between 10:00 and 11:00 am.
