August 12, 1939 – March 13, 2022
Annette Ferguson Haynes, 82, died Sunday, March 13, 2022. Born in Hampton, she was the ninth child of the twelve children born to James C. and Julia V. Ferguson and was raised in Phoebus. She started her career as a teacher in Martinsville, VA before moving back to Hampton eventually retiring from Captain John Smith Elementary School in 2005. She was an avid reader, especially the Bible. Annette loved nature and kept an impeccable flower garden at her home. She enjoyed watching and identifying the birds she saw. She made friends easily and loved her family and her many friends.
Annette was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings, Marilyn Warfield, Daniel Ferguson, Geraldine Roche, James Ferguson, Elaine Arbogast, Robert Ferguson and Kenneth Ferguson; survivors include her children, Lucinda "Cindy" Miller (Jeff), Eric Haynes (Reneé), and Justin Haynes (Cherisa); three sisters, Phyllis Callicott, Charlotte Darnell, and Jeannette King; a brother, Dick Ferguson; six beloved grandchildren, Alex and Kevin Miller, Scott and Todd Haynes, and Zoë and Asha Haynes; and a great grandchild, Michael Miller.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12:30 PM, Saturday, March 19, 2022 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
