Anne Routten Rakes went home to be with the Lord on December 4, 2018. She was born May 13, 1941. She was a proud Hamptonian. She graduated from Hampton High School in 1958 where she met the love of her life, Curtis E. Rakes. They spent 59 wonderful years together surrounded by the people they loved most. Anne loved her family more than anything in this world and will always be the brick and mortar to a legacy that will continue long after her.

She decided at 40 years old to continue her education and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Elementary Education from Christopher Newport University and with a Masters in Counseling from Hampton University. She worked in Hampton City Schools for 25 years as an elementary educator and guidance counselor. She loved working with children and always loved seeing her past students.

Anne Rakes is preceded in death by her parents Marshall and Dorothea Routten. She is survived by her husband Curtis; their three sons, Curtis E. Rakes Jr. (Susanne), Michael Steven Rakes (Valerie), and Christopher Marshall Rakes; daughter Taralyn Warren Rowe (Eric); their grandchildren Shawn Michael Rakes, Steven Allen Rakes, Madilyn Anne Rowe, Emily Caroline Rowe, David Cooper, Michaela Cooper, and Bethany Cooper; her sisters, Mary Louise Wilson and Carol Jean Whiting(Livingston) her mother-in-law, Mildred Rakes Ellicott; her sister-in-law Sandra Rakes Midkiff and her many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Monday, December 10, 2018 from 6-8PM with services to follow at 11AM, Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. Anne's favorite thing to do was to gather everyone together for a party. Immediately following the funeral will be a Celebration of Life at the Hampton Yacht Club.
