Annabelle (Ann) Tyer Richardson, 84, joined God's heavenly host of angels on Thursday, Sept.11, 2014 after a short illness. Born in Washington, N.C., she was a former resident of Hampton. She had been a resident of Grandy, N.C. for the past 30 years. Previously, Ann was a school bus driver for Hampton City Schools and also worked as a School Crossing Guard for 20 years on Fox Hill Road. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her passions were her family, Blue Grass music, and gardening. Ann was a devout Christian and patriot; it was fitting that she passed on 9-11. Ann is survived by her husband of 63 years, Edward L. Richardson (Ret. Captain Hampton Police), and her sons Joseph Richardson, Thomas Richardson and wife Deborah, Douglas Wayne Richardson, and a brother John Tyer and his wife Donna of Phoenix City, Alabama. Additionally, she is survived by 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Ann was predeceased by her parents George and Mary Tyer, brothers Ed Tyer, George Tyer, and great grandson Michael. A celebration of her life will be held at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave., Hampton, Va., Sunday, Sept. 14, at 1:30 PM. The family will receive guest at 12:00 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow immediately in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
