IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ann L.
Simmonds
January 6, 1931 – April 14, 2023
Ann L. Simmonds, January 6, 1931 – April 14, 2023. Ann passed away at 92 after a short illness. A lifelong resident of Hampton, she attended Hampton High school during the mid-forties and always reminisced about how proud she was to attend class with war veterans returning to complete their education. After graduation she attended Shenandoah Conservatory on a full music scholarship.
Ann was proficient in the violin and piano throughout her life. She enjoyed playing the organ in her local church and the violin with the York River Symphony Orchestra. Ann married and raised three children. She worked as a mathematician/human computer in the Space Systems Division, for NASA-Langley from 1958 to 1989 and was a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. During her tenure at NASA, she co-authored two published books listed with the Library of Congress along with several research reports, papers, and periodicals on space and aeronautical topics. After retirement Ann continued to follow aviation and the military as a hobby. She enjoyed reading and viewing anything about aviation and ships. A favorite pastime was talking on the phone with her sister and several close friends.
At her request she asked that her funeral be private with no fanfare. She will be buried by her son Kenneth at Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton.
