Ann Williams Hudgins, 100, passed peacefully on Friday, May 31, 2024 leaving an empty place in the hearts of her family and friends, only to be filled with many precious memories.
Ann was born on August 26, 1923 in Mathews, VA to Paul Barrett Williams and Gertrude Morton Williams. After graduating from Mathews High School, she moved to the Peninsula and was employed as a secretary for 43 years in the Newport News Shipyard, retiring in 1985 from Yard Operations Dept. of Tenneco.
On October 10, 1948 Ann married George Mason Hudgins, Jr. and they shared 62 wonderful years together.
A lifelong Methodist, Ann was raised in Salem United Methodist Church in Mathews and later joined Trinity United Methodist Church in Newport News where she enjoyed servicing in any way that she could.
After her retirement she joined the Exchange Club of Hampton and loved being a part of a great service club. She served as President for two years (1997-1999).
In addition to her parents Ann was preceded in death by her devoted husband Mason Hudgins, Jr., her brothers Ryland, Alton, Pete and Morton, her sister Bernice Williams Wayne and niece Paula Williams Boggs. Ann is survived by her niece, Gail Williams Neff (Roy) of Yorktown; nephews, Wayne Williams Sr., (Sandra) of Mathews, George Williams of Richmond, Courtney Ball and Tom Ball of Kentucky; and several great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a special family friend, Gerald Brown of Spotsylvania, Virginia.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon – 1:00 PM Thursday, June 6, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave., in Hampton, VA. Immediately following at 1:00 PM, a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel by Pastor Don Blagg. The burial in Greenlawn Cemetery will be private.
