Angela Elizabeth Phillips Wade, 54, of Newport News, passed away on August 19, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Angela was born on August 18, 1968, to James Laughton Phillips and Charlotte Elizabeth Phillips in Baltimore, Maryland.  After Angela graduated from Hampton Roads Academy in 1987, she graduated from Duke University in 1991 before receiving her Masters from William and Mary in 1993.  She fought to complete her final degree while combating cancer, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Library Science and Media, Summa Cum Laude, in 2021.

Angela began a career supporting children's learning as a substitute teacher in the Newport News public school system.  A writer and lover of books, Angela became an aide at the Newport News public library, where she was passionate about sharing books with students.  Angela was a prolific writer, completing the 4th novel in her Edward Red Mage Mystery series in 2021.  She was a loyal member of the SCA, a bellydancer, doll, and garment maker, almost always carrying a bag of supplies for her latest project.  Angela's most prized role was of wife and mother, which she proclaimed was all she wanted from childhood.  Of all the things she held dear, her family was always paramount.

"She was strange and colorful and unapologetically herself.  Often loud, rambly, and easily distracted, she was also ferociously creative, passionately dedicated to her family, and a cool person overall."
We will miss her individuality, creativity, goodness, and generous spirit.

Angela was preceded in death by her, daughter, Lillian Charlotte Wade (4-27-2001); father-in-law, Henry Wade, IV (12-07-2019); and her father, Dr. James Laughton Phillips (11-11-2021)

Survivors include her mother, Charlotte Elizabeth Phillips; mother-in-law, Barbra Lolitta Wade; spouse, John Patrick Wade; sisters, Eleanor Anne Phillips, and Sandy C. B. A. Phillips; brother, James Laughton Phillips, Jr.; children, Samual James Wade, and Elizabeth Barbara Wade; and her nephew, Drexil James Rohde.

Services will be held at  Emmanuel  Episcopal Church in Hampton on Sunday, August 28, at 2:00 pm .
