Obituary

Albert Hugh Watson passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his wife on Sunday, November 19, 2023.

In joining our heavenly father, he leaves behind his loving spouse of 45 years, Brenda Thomas Watson, his son Kenneth and wife Karen; stepdaughter, Cindy; brother, Russell; sister-in-law, Carol; a special niece, Jennifer and her family; three grandsons, Ron, Shawn, and Ken  and their families; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell W. and Rosa Lee Gaff Watson, and siblings Doris, Archie, Jewel, Mary, twins Herman and Thurman, and a stepson, Frank.

Born August 14, 1932, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, Hugh was the fourth of eight children and was distinguished by piercing blue eyes and youthful looks.  He grew up on a farm, and he continued to work with his father until he enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.  After receiving training in electronics, Hugh settled in Georgia after the war where he owned a television repair shop.  He later settled in Florida and continued working in the television repair business for many years before going to work at the Kennedy Space Center.  He was an electronic technician and worked on the booster rockets for the space shuttles.  He married Brenda Fay Thomas of Fox Hill in 1978, and the couple lived in Merritt Island Florida until Hugh retired in 1991.  The family relocated to Fox Hill in 1993 where they continued to live until his death.

In life, Hugh was a caring and devoted husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, and very special uncle.  He is remembered as being kind, and always ready to lend a hand to family, neighbors, or those in need of help.  If you dropped by the house, you were likely to find Hugh in his workshop engaged in woodworking, tending his vegetable garden, or tinkering with his beloved tractor.

No services are planned, but if you wish to honor Hugh's memory, the family requests donations to Clark Cemetery Association in his name.  Send contributions to Clark Cemetery Association, c/o Mary Lou Roaseau, 373 Emily Dickinson, Newport News, VA 23606-1488.
