August 1, 1926 – March 10, 2018
Albert D. Powers, 91, passed away peacefully at his home on March 10, 2018. A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he attended Drexel University and he proudly served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He raised his family with his wife Rosemary in Randolph New Jersey, where he worked for 42 years as a chemical engineer for Allied Chemical. He always put his family first and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Albert was an active member of St. Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Church in Chester, NJ where he was a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and served as the president of the Columbian Club. Following his move to Hampton he became a member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church and was also active in the community at The Chamberlin.
Albert was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Rosemary Powers, his son, Guy Albert, and his sister, Patty. Survivors include his children, Karen Tomlin and husband John of Providence Forge, VA, Gail Miner and husband Dennis of Yorktown, VA, and son, Michael Powers and wife Norma of Doyleston, PA. Also left to cherish his memory are his sister, Dorothy Munch and his grandchildren, Bryant Tomlin, Kristin Miner, Kathleen Richards, Joshua Powers, and Jeremy Powers.
The family would like to thank the Chamberlin staff and residents as well as the staff at Riverside Hospice for their care and compassion. The family would also like to especially thank Mrs. Nancy Bingol for her support and friendship.
The family will receive friends at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 from 12-1PM with a funeral mass beginning at 1PM. Inurnment at St. Bede Catholic Church will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made in Albert's memory to the Shriner's Hospital: Office of Development, Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
