Albert A. Materia, Jr, 71, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014. Born in El Campo, TX, he has been a resident of Hampton for 40+ years. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and worked at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, retiring in 2006, after 32 years of service. Al was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Ann Materia. He is survived by his son, Albert A. Materia, III and his wife Jennifer of Hampton; grandchildren, Jack and Mike; and sister, Gayle McNamara of Huntington Station, NY. The family will receive friends from 5-6:00 PM Tuesday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in downtown Hampton. Immediately following at 6:00 PM, a funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be private.
