IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jean Baker
Kelpin
October 15, 1931 – March 4, 2026
Jean Baker Kelpin, 94, passed from this life on March 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and numerous friends. She was predeceased by her husband, John Andrew Kelpin, and is survived by their beloved son, John David Kelpin; a sister, Marjorie B. "Boots" Long; nieces, Deborah Long and Nancy Corbett (Wes); nephew, James B. Long (Connie); and great‑niece, Sydney Salsbury (Andrew); and their families.
Born in Kenbridge, Virginia, Jean was a Peninsula resident from the age of five. She was educated in local schools and proudly earned recognition as the first female in Virginia to become a paralegal. Her skills were used and appreciated by several law firms in the area.
Jean was a devoted lifelong member of Buckroe Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for over half a century. Her caring wisdom and love of all will be remembered by all who benefited from her leadership.
The family extends its sincere appreciation for the prayers, visits, and condolences during their vigil, and offers special gratitude and love to family friend Barbara Rogers, who has been devout in her support throughout.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 9th, at 2:00 PM at Buckroe Baptist Church 1819 N Mallory Street, Hampton, VA 23664.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a love contribution be made to Buckroe Baptist Church in honor of Jean.
